June 30, 2025 – BACKSEAT, a leading Japanese crypto exchange operator dedicated to fostering the social implementation of blockchain technology, today announced it has successfully closed a seed funding round, raising approximately US$9.69 million (1.4 billion Japanese Yen). This significant investment, achieved within just one year of the company's establishment, underscores strong investor confidence in BACKSEAT's vision to provide a secure, innovative, and accessible digital asset trading platform for users ranging from beginners to advanced traders.
The seed round was jointly led by prominent venture capital firms Spiral Capital and Headline Asia, with additional participation from East Ventures. The newly secured capital will be strategically allocated to accelerate product development, recruit top-tier talent, and strengthen the company's organizational structure, ensuring robust growth and enhanced service delivery.
BACKSEAT is committed to modernizing the digital asset landscape in Japan and beyond. The company's comprehensive suite of services includes easy crypto trading (sales office), a full-fledged crypto asset exchange, crypto OTC (Over-The-Counter) trading, staking services, and support for Initial Exchange Offerings (IEOs). These offerings are designed to cater to both individual and corporate clients, providing a seamless and secure trading experience.
"We are incredibly grateful for the trust and support from our investors, who share our conviction in the transformative power of blockchain and digital assets," a spokesperson for BACKSEAT stated. "This funding is a pivotal step in our journey to build an industry-leading platform that not only meets the evolving needs of our users but also sets new benchmarks for security and compliance in the Japanese market."
A key strategic move reinforcing BACKSEAT's market position was the acquisition of all shares of the Japanese crypto exchange "coinbook" in February 2025. This acquisition led to the establishment of BACKSEAT Exchange (BSE) as a wholly-owned subsidiary. Through BSE, BACKSEAT plans to significantly upgrade existing services and launch new, innovative crypto asset trading services within the current year, leveraging coinbook's established presence and expertise.
BACKSEAT prides itself on maintaining the highest standards of security and internal control. The company continuously integrates the latest security technologies to protect customer assets and information. Furthermore, regular internal and external audits are conducted to verify and evaluate the appropriateness and effectiveness of its internal management systems, ensuring ongoing enhancement of its operational integrity.
The company is a registered crypto asset exchange operator with the Kanto Local Finance Bureau (Registration No. 00026) and is a proud member of the Japan Virtual and Crypto assets Exchange Association (JVCEA), adhering strictly to regulatory guidelines and industry best practices.
